L'Aventure Optimus

We were in Bakersfield last night and we went to Cafe Med, one of the nicest restaurants in town. We didn't really eat, but split a tomato, basil, mozzarella salad. Bad sign right away that they don't call it a Caprese salad, but that says more about the town than the restaurant. Tomatoes were not fresh, mozzarella was way too wet and flavorless, and there were more greens on the plate than basil. But oh well, we originally just went for wine, and we did enjoy that.

Got a bottle of 2005 L'Aventure Optimus. It is a blend of Syrah/Cab w/ a little Petit Verdot. I've wanted to go the winery and I've heard great things about them. Seen it in stores for around $45-50, but have resisted the urge thus far. But I couldn't pass it up on their wine list for $66. The wine was good, lots of fruit, a little heat in the glass but that went away after it got some air. Probably could've benefited from some decanting but I was too lazy to ask. Maybe I'll pick up a bottle next time I see it at retail :)
